Housing Finance Reform

Housing_Finance_Reform_USDC-14-02972-EM_378445.jpgThe U.S. housing finance system is currently operated and regulated within a piecemeal framework. In the years since the collapse of the housing market, there is enough information to know which approaches are working and which are not.

Now is the time for Congress to act.

Now is the time to address the uncertainties of the current regulatory scheme, which are severely restricting access to credit, shutting out many households that are prepared to become successful homeowners and continuing to depress home prices.

Join Habitat for Humanity in calling on Congress to reform the U.S. housing finance system to ensure the future liquidity, stability and resiliency of housing markets.

Use your voice today to ask your federal lawmaker to support responsible reform.

Housing Finance Reform: Patchwork is for quilts, not finance

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent and on behalf of Habitat for Humanity, I write in support of efforts to reform the U.S. housing finance system. I call on you to take action to ensure the future liquidity, stability and resiliency of housing markets.

I join Habitat for Humanity, along with a broad coalition of supporters of safe, decent and affordable housing, in calling on Congress to adopt housing finance reform legislation to:
- Ensure affordable mortgage credit is available to meet the housing needs of all responsible homeowners and renters, regardless of their income level.
- Maintain multiple capital channels so that many lenders have equal access and can serve responsible homeowners and renters, regardless of their income level.
- Supplement the housing finance system with targeted housing assistance mechanisms in order to meet the housing needs of all responsible homeowners and renters, regardless of their income level.
- Maintain strong regulation that guards against practices that prey on consumers.
- Carefully structure the role of the federal government with layers of capital to protect taxpayer funds.

Sincerely,
